The State of the Youth Development 2018

On April 18, 2018, YDI, in partnership with the CUNY School of Professional Studies, Algorhythm and Youth Inc., hosted a conference at CUNY for youth development practitioners and policymakers.  The conference—The State of Youth Development in New York City 2018—sought to gauge the current state of the field and bring together youth development professionals to brainstorm ideas and get inspired to build more just and equitable programs that address the issues that concern young people the most.

Highlighting Best Practices in Empowering Immigrant Students

YDI’s Molly Delano recently presented at The Internationals Network for Public Schools’ Annual Fall Professional Development Conference. This year, the conference focused on empowering immigrant students, and Ms. Delano spoke on a panel titled “Beyond School: Discussing Social Contexts that Influence our Student’s Lives, our Work and the Pursuit of Safe, Affirming Communities.”

YDI Awarded Capacity Building Services Grants

YDI continues to be a trusted partner in providing technical assistance to youth-serving programs across New York City. Last month, the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) awarded YDI two capacity building services grants - one for Youth Development and one for Youth Leadership - totaling $150,000.

These grants support YDI's work with youth workers and staff of COMPASS, Beacon, Neighborhood Development Area, and Cornerstone Community Center programs, enabling YDI to deliver customized training, coaching and consulting, and to support learning communities. DYCD's generous awards will enable YDI to build capacity around understanding and integrating youth development principles, as well as facilitate staff's understanding of the tenets of youth leadership to prepare them to engage their youth participants as decision-makers and program leaders.
