YDI’s Molly Delano recently presented at The Internationals Network for Public Schools’ Annual Fall Professional Development Conference. This year, the conference focused on empowering immigrant students, and Ms. Delano spoke on a panel titled “Beyond School: Discussing Social Contexts that Influence our Student’s Lives, our Work and the Pursuit of Safe, Affirming Communities.” She drew from YDI’s recent experience as a capacity building provider to the Anchoring Achievement in Mexican Communities (AAMC) Initiative, for which the Internationals Network served as lead agency in the Jackson Heights/Queens network. Ms. Delano discussed promising practices from the AAMC initiative, highlighting how Positive Youth Development can inform practical interactions with young people on an everyday basis. She also discussed the power of authentic youth participation and celebrated examples of transformative youth leadership from International Schools. For more about these practices, read our report on the AAMC initiative here.
